Associate Editor in Canada

The Strathmore Times, an award-winning weekly newspaper serving a population of nearly 14,000 people, is seeking an Associate Editor to cover a one-year maternity leave. With a degree in journalism and at least one year work experience in an editorial department, the successful candidate will have well-developed writing and editing skills. Successful applicant must be willing to relocate to Strathmore for the term of this position.

Core responsibilities include:

• Generation of story ideas
• Assigning articles
• Writing articles
• Photography
• Substantive and copy editing
• Fact checking – with excellent knowledge of CP style
• Working collaboratively with other departments (design, production, circulation, marketing, sales)
• Manage social media presence  

Qualifications

Internally, candidate must be able to manage schedules, editorial staff and be a strong team player. Externally, candidate needs excellent communication skills and an interest in working with members of the community and local politicians to ensure strong relations and coverage of local events.
